Fluid Flow Property Estimation from Seismic Scattering Data

چکیده

All geophysical methods detect fractures indirectly [e.g. NAS/NRC, 1996]. Typically several levels of interpretation follow the collection of raw geophysical data. Field measurements must first be interpreted (for example from travel time to velocities or identification of the origin of seismic scattering features in the coda). Then the fracture properties must be deduced using models (from seismic attributes to fracture geometry). Finally, the fracture physics of interest such as fluid flow properties must be interpreted (from fracture geometry to fluid permeability). The latter two steps may be approached by beginning with rock physics models that relate flow and transport to fracture geometry and that relate elasticity to fracture geometry.

Seismic monitoring of reservoir fluid flow: Fundamental theory and examples1

Time-lapse 3-D seismic monitoring of subsurface rock property changes incurred during reservoir fluid-flow processes is an emerging new diagnostic technology for optimizing hydrocarbon production. I discuss the physical theory relevant for three-phase fluid flow in a producing oil reservoir, and rock physics transformations of fluid-flow pressure, temperature and pore-fluid saturation values to...

Estimation of Flow Zone Indicator Distribution by Using Seismic Data: A Case Study from a Central Iranian Oilfield

Flow unit characterization plays an important role in heterogeneity analysis and reservoir simulation studies. Usually, a correct description of the lateral variations of reservoir is associated with uncertainties. From this point of view, the well data alone does not cover reservoir properties. Because of large well distances, it is difficult to build the model of a heterogenic reservoir, but ...

Estimation of reservoir fluid saturation from 4D seismic data: effects of noise on seismic amplitude and impedance attributes

Time-lapse (4D) seismic data sets have proven to be extremely useful for reservoir monitoring. Seismic-derived impedance estimates are commonly used as a 4D attribute to constrain updates to reservoir fluid flow models. However, 4D seismic estimates of P-wave impedance can contain significant errors associated with the effects of seismic noise and the inherent instability of inverse methods. Th...

Reservoir permeability from seismic attribute analysis

In case of porous fluid-saturated medium the Biot’s poroelasticity theory predicts a movement of the pore fluid relative to the skeleton on seismic wave propagation through the medium. This phenomenon opens an opportunity for investigation of the flow properties of the hydrocarbon-saturated reservoirs. It is well known that relative fluid movement becomes negligible at seismic frequencies if po...

A Case Study of a Fine Scale Integrated Geological, Geophysical, Petrophysical, and Reservoir Simulation Reservoir Characterization With Uncertainty Estimation

A novel method for the integration of multi-scale rock and fluid information was performed on a single well deep-water exploration discovery. The method integrates diverse data types through physically constrained models into a single earth model. Development scenarios were optimized through multiple flow simulations. The development scenarios were designed to investigate the range of uncertain...
